Evaluation for Preliminary Task

Our preliminary task was to create a short piece of film based on a genre of our choice. We decided we would film a boy following a girl down a hallway when she realises that she is being followed, so she gets faster and faster the girl walks towards the door she enters the room and the boy follows her, she slowly walks cautiously towards a table and sits down the boy also sits down and he gives her a mobile phone and says you dropped this.

We decided to choose a "spoof" thriller. We wanted to challenge the conventions of a thriller by questioning the audiences belief. We didn't reveal the comic ending until the last possible moment.

The conventions of a thriller are; shaky cam which creates a realistic affect for the audience, fast paced shots instead of static shots. the lighting is normally dull and dark in a thriller, this is to create a sense of mystery and tension to hold the audiences attention.

We created a storyboard to help us plan out our film we used pictures to help us describe what we wanted our film to look like. We described the camera angles we would use for example over the shoulder, 180 degree shot shaky cam and pan shot. we wanted Robbie to wear a hoodie as it amplifies that he is a mysterious person hiding in the shadows.

The location of the film was the school, however if we had more time we would have moved the location to somewhere more interesting and exciting, however the problems with filming in the hallway was the noise we needed it to be quite to get the effect we wanted however because there were classes it was very noisy.

When filming we had a lot of problems with continuity, we had to keep re-filming certain scenes because we realised that on a couple Robbie had his hood up and then another shot he wouldn't, with Sophie she was wearing a different costume and different hairstyles.

The problem with health and safety was that we had the actors running up and down the hallway and could easily fall over.

Everyone in the group had a different role, Sophie was one of the actors in the film, Robbie was the other actor in the film, Lauren and I were filming it. when filming everyone had a say in how we should film it, and how we should set the Mise-en-scene, therefore when filming if someone thought of a good way to change it we all had a say in how we should do it.
